Software to find and transfer photo files from old PC's

I want to dispose of a couple of very old PC's (running XP). Key thing is to get copies of every picture file off them and store elsewhere. I'm not very IT savy, and Google offers so many alternative options. For example, 3 (of several) free apps;

How do you identify what is a 'picture file'?

It would normally be done by looking at the file extension: jpg, bmp, tif, gif, etc.

The problem is that this will also pick up a lot of things you do not want: desktop backgrounds, clip art.

Storage is cheap, so you could clone the entire hard disk and then wipe (or destroy) it.

You could also remove the hard disks form the machines and keep them for use in an external caddy, and then dispose of the rest of the machine.

Another good one is called 'Everything' (https://www.voidtools.com/).

you could alwasy pop the hard drives out the old machinnes into external caddies, plug them into a newer PC and search for file types then copy the bits over at your leisure

Can't you just do a search for the file types you're after and copy them to a memory stick and transfer across?

they are ok to use above but programs still do miss things

your best useing windows 7, my computer and the + sign on the left and drag and drop files into simple prenamed folders

jpeg, programs, rar zip files, adult, adult pics the list gets wider and widder keep it simple though with the folders

doing one hard drive at a time

dont forget your firefox and opera files as well from those pcs

i use browser history x64 much better than most out there and allows you to double click to open them files comes in handy when your searching for web pages that many
