Yep you just need to sell a kidney to buy one
They are not bronze ,but beryllium copper alloy
And they're not soft since they use the same material to make spanners sockets chiesel and essentially everything we normally use made out of steel

We make brass hammers, the last was 28lb sledge, which I really wouldn't want to swing for long. The hammer we make most of for none sparking environments are huge wooden mallets on fibreglass shafts, for cement works. Apparently they blow the cement through big pipes, because it's so dry, light and fine (what makes it stupidly explosive) it builds up on the side of the tubes so they bray the pipes with the wooden mallets to keep the cement flowing.

My idea was to use a normal hammer and anneal it

They aren't stupidly hard anyway somewhere between 45 and 55rc, but even soft they'd still be harder than mild steel. Personally i'd use a soft face hammer when you need a soft face hammer and keep your steel hammers for what they're designed for.

I had a soft iron hammer. It was sort of half-way between a steel and a copper hammer for hardness. No idea on the original purpose.

I have a Thor Soft Iron one, but I also have a massive Thor mallet with Plastic inserts I use most for hitting things I don't want to damage

I use a copper one for bashing little tungsten pins into horseshoes for grip.
It's a 3.8-4.2mm tapered pin, tapped into a 4mm hole.
I use copper as I need the pin to fit in tight but i dont want the pointed end to sit flush, it needs to sit proud a little.
This is the hammer after about 6months.
