Soda Blasting

Hi

I thought I would join this forum to try and learn some more about the paint stripping and blasting industry. We bought a soda blaster last year and have had a steep learning curve. I am looking for advice on a range of topics such the safety issues when stripping paint, in particular lead paint, the best air fed masks and plenty more.

Are you franchised?, if so I would have thought part of the package would have been training and especially training in relation to the hazards of the materials you will be exposed to including the correct PPE for your own safety.

Seeing as you're already running a blasting business wouldn't that be something you should know about?

A bit cheeky slipping that in David. Wozz won't let you get away with that. You'd have been far better off just coming straight out and being open about it, then you'd have got away with it, probably. Honesty really is the best policy around here.

Anyway, you sneaky type, where are you based, what's your company, and what do you do? I keep being asked for blasters to recommend round here but don't know any. Used to be Premier at Newbattle, but they seem to be gone.

Having done a search for saoda blasters I was a bit disappointed that this thread appears to have been an advertising ploy.

I do sand blasting and carving for the purposes of art but I am looking at branching out into cleaning certain parts.

I have one of those ebay pots which I modded to due sand carving and then I moved onto a Ace blaster (fantastic machine) but it only came with a 3mm nozzle in it and I have never put soda into it.

IS their anyone out there who might guide a newbie to this area please and give me some advice on what can and cant be done and with what please?

I'll keep searching the old postss for my answers but if theirs an idiots guide out there I would love to read it.

whilst I run a PAB Gun, several tungsten nozzles and two pots, one heabily modded (and the ace blaster is still miles better) I want to learn as much as I can about it please?

Realy, I would like to make some money blasting stuff :-)

if u have the room depending what u want to blast i used an 6x8ft shed with conveyor belting lining on floor and walls and used to open blast car wheels mororbike frames and ally engine parts with a couple of diffrent pots one for ally using sand and another using expendable grit .jet size was 6.0mm with a screw compressor 90cfm anything smaller than that and its not economical time wise to make good proffit then had the cabinet for sand and beadblasting the wheels after cleaning them 1st using either the pressure pot or the suction gun in cabinet using a woodchip extracta for the dust removal

I have a similar setup to BS.

Blastroom with 20 gall ebay pot, various nozzles, 2+3hp compressors. I do mostly scooter stuff so I don't need any more air, small parts would get blown out of my hand and panels would get bent.

I've made a turntable for wheels

I also have cabinet for bead blasting with a 10 gall Ebay pot.

I used to have an ACE pot, but I don't share Copperslot enthusiasm for it!

I use a Clarke woodchip extractor with extra filter bags.

As much time is taken up by sieving the grit for re-use by actual blasting - a screening machine is on the drawing board.

its a dirty noisey buisness so u need not to have close neighbours or anyone that can complain and get it stopped. i had all my gear on a farm but now have it at home theres only a school playing field at back of me house so no one to whinge

a 90cfm mobile diesel comp is noisey as is the blast from the jet when u get past 3mm

I didnt realise that the jet would get noisy after the 3mm that I currently have.
