Soda Blasting

I've been grit and glass bead blasting for a while and I now want to have a go at soda blasting more delicate parts like carbs, ali crank cases etc.

Question 1. Can I use my bench top blast cabinet (after clearing it of grit)?

Question 2. Can I assume that Soda will not be as re-usable as the current media I'm using (Ali Oxide & Glass bead)? Will I need to change it more often?

Question 3. Is it really possible to use Supermarket soda crystals?

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Soda crystals are a different thing to what you need, they are caustic. What you want is sodium bicarbonate for blasting, it is like baking soda.

The Caustic Soda crystals are also known as washing soda, avoid!

You're right - don't know where I got that idea from, sodium hydroxide is caustic soda.

Sure make a few holes in your underwear etc.

You can save the used bicarb and use it as a hand cleaning aid along with a Swarfega type hand cleaner & then with plain old soap and warm water .

After washing your hands just be sure to rinse your hands off well in clean running warm water to remove any metal / paint particles off your skin .
