Soda blasting questions

Hi I have the bench mounted clarke blasting cabinet, it's been ok so far

I have seen on another thread on the forum some on used bicarb is this ok???, would this be ok in the cabinet????

Only reason about bicarb is because it's cheap and im only sixteen

It's so i can use it on my aliuminium cylinder heads (Vw beetle 1972 type 1)
will it be ok????

Also would aluminium oxide be ok for blasting the heads with?????? I have found some cheap one's.

Soda will be good for blasting your heads as it will easily wash out of the oilways and valve guides.

Aluminium oxide might be a little too abrasive and can be a pig to get out of engine parts.

sodas ok .using fine aluminium oxide leaves a rough surface finish ok for cleaning the outer surfaces if your painting them but cover up the machined surfaces . beadblasting would be ok as well if your not painting them ok on machined surfaces as well

I try not to blast any inside surfaces with bead or ali oxide, the time spent ensuring all the media is removed is usually longer than cleaning with chemicals. If you boil an ali casting that was blasted[and washed really well] you often get some media out of it.

a good point was brought up by shox doctor using soda as against beads beads have to be cleaned out . soda can be washed out leaving no abrasive something can be learned all the time
