Soapstone metal marker suppliers

Hello all,
Can someone tell me where I can buy soapstone markers from in the UK please? I've googled all the Eng. supply firms local to me but can't seem to find any.

I get mine from Twiggs in Matlock and yes, they call them soapstone too. They come with a sort of slider pen holder thing. Surely not a difficult thing to get.

I usually drop them on the floor and tread on them.

they sell it flipping everywhere in ireland , soapstone it called too, the granfather used to bring it back from the US, they used to get all that crap free in the ironworkers union back in the day

I've recently used tailors chalk for I was desperate to mark something with a long thin line that i could easily see when wearing a welding mask.
It did the job admirably and looks like it is moving from my lasses sewing box into my garage for ever.

It's cheap too and can be had in hundreds of places that sell thread & needles . I think even Tesco has them on the haberdashery rack.

Thanks for all the replies. Well, I never knew it was actually French chalk, Duh! I thought it must be a bit like that enriched euphonium, or whatever it is called.That is what comes from reading books on welding by American authors. I nearly Googled my fingers away last night looking for it.
I am going to get one in a holder, then from a distance it will look as if I know what I am doing.

It's pretty cheap, you can get a boxfull for around £7.

I am lucky down the farm, as they use chalk from the downs to fill holes in the gateways and cattle sheds,so I have loads of it to hand, and it is even fun smashing the housebrick sized lumps down to usefull bits.

Non-interesting Fact of the Day,
French chalk is also a fine chalk powder used by signwriters who put in in Wimmins stockings (not fishnets), roll it up tight into a ball (pounce bag) then rub it over pounced drawings (see pounce wheel) to set out a job or to prevent gold leaf from sticking to other parts of the sign, ie background area.
