So will this do to transport a Bridgeport?

As per title. Will this pallet be strong enough to transport a Bridgeport? I have a piece of 18mm ply about 4' x 2' which I can screw down to it for the machine to sit on and spread the load a bit. What does the hive mind think?

That is much too big.
Get a red or blue 120x100 pallet. Not a 120x80.
Screw a piece of ply on it. Through bolt it with coach bolts. Domed head underneath.
Lower the knee as far as you can.
Rotate head 180 degrees.

Bugger. It's the best one we've managed to find. I wonder if there's anywhere near cirencester that would have one and how much it would cost?

Blue and red pallets are actually rented so pallet recycling companies aren't allowed to touch them. Hence if you ask nicely you should get one for nothing.
I have burnt hundreds of pallets in my time. Most people not in the know are happy to give them away free.
Doesn't have to be a blue or red but they are particularly solid.

Can't you cut it in half and use the offcut to add in a middle brace and some bottom slats?

I've cut down several pallets before - just make sure it is all reinforced and no parts overhang. Nothing too strong ever broke.

He could as long as it is 120x100 or even better 120x120. 120x120 pallets are very rare but most networks allow them as a standard size.

I moved a Bridgeport Interact on a blue pallet - we thought that it was well strapped - went on a farm flat bed trailer behind a JCB Loadall. Driver was a bit too enthusiastic, approached the slight down hill into the village a bit too fast, stepped on the brakes and the weight transferred to the front of the pallet which collapsed. Interact came off, fell on it's vulnerable bits and was a right off. Went to the scrap yard which upset me very greatly. Total uninsured loss

also depending on what the pallet is going in...
dont strap it to the sides of anything like a transit Luton.....it will fall apar if it moves........
when I moved mine I simply took the head off....simple but v heavy...plus the electrics are plug in....

as @fizzy said. Blue Pallet is the way to go. The one pictured, I only have to drive up to them with my FLT and they fall apart from the stress!

From my experience I'd bolt it down to a pair of stout timbers arranged so that a fork lift can pick it up. 4x4" or preferably 6x6" Then go mad with ratchet straps to the vehicle north, south east and west. Then try and avoid having an idiot drive it !

Not good for things going through pallet networks though.

Find a man with a van type so it stays with one van and driver for its entire trip? - I know not where, but I sold something big and heavy, and the buyer organised one of these types to collect it (- I really should have taken the buys number) - he took on a few jobs, worked out a route, collected/delivered around it

The problem is most van tail lifts are rated at 500kg. A Bridgeport weighs 950kgs. A lorry tail lift will manage though.
