I stopped using boc years ago because it seemed every transaction with them was hassle and nearly always needed a follow up call.
A recent job needed me to get burning gear again so I set up a new account and got a W sized oxy bottle the same day!
This I great I thought won’t be too much month and will be empty in a week.
Sure enugh it was empty and duly dropped back in the the agent
All was well until I get a email invoice, £230!
They had charged me
For 12 month rent.
Cue lots of calls and they will only give me a credit note on my account and I have been told that’s their standard way of billing?!

Waiting on a email back deciding weather they are worth the heartbreak

Shame, as sgs gases do the rent free oxygen now if you had a dealer near by (that could get it in as not all stock it)

I have a gas stockist within carrying distance of my workshop but with deposit and gas cost for a lot less gas it wasn’t worth it, I have rent free welding bottles ( 4 of them!) but for oxygen boc where a lot better priced until the aforementioned carry on!

Yeah. Have you seen the price of it!!!! . Boc is like quarter that.

A friend of mine buys his consumables from local BOC depot, he recons they’re good, consistent quality for a reasonable price. Could you use the credit to stock up and save some hassle?

that's the good thing with sgs though as it's there in black and white.
Deposit is this, gas is this.
Money back for bottle when returned.

You probably signed up to a contract agreement with boc and stipulated within a minimum term of 12months.

I would rather pay more for the gas and charge the customer the consumables rather than the hassle.

Your fault. All BOC contracts are one year. If all else fails read the instructions.

I'm sure our oxygen and acetylene bottles are £400 a year rental at work?.

It's been a while since I had boc but I have a feeling they stopped monthly contracts and went to 1yr only.
I think you could still pay monthly but you had to sign up for the full year.

Last time I had a bottle of something obscure I managed to get it on a 5yr rental paid upfront and take it back after the first month and that worked out really cheap but I think they did the same and gave me an account credit for the remaining 59 months.

I don't think you can use the account credit in store, only against you account but the place I was dealing with only did gas.
If your place sells stuff you want you could ask them if they can see a credit on your account on the computer or if they will sell you stuff against your account but that's never been offered as an option to me?

The only issue I have had with them is I occasionally got vouchers for free gas refills. The agents would always scan the voucher, boc would always charge me full price. I would ring boc, they would ask for the voucher code and then tell me the voucher had already been used once. They would tell me the date it was used and that would be when I had picked the bottle up!
They would say they would sort it out and it would always come back as a credit the following billing cycle.

Must be large bottles. The handle able sizes are around 60-70 each per year Inc vat.

Cheaper than mig gas and you'll weld twice as far with no electricity cost. Just takes a bit more time.

But if your welding old ***** you save that time not having to shine and grind everything up.
