Snow!

Came down here in Ireland Friday at about 2cm midlands and by Saturday night Sunday morning was about 5-6cm in parts.great bit of craic altogether.near gone now though

It was stuck in the middle of the road with its hazzards on, i couldnt see why though

Must have been the X5 I followed yesterday, no snow but the he was weaving about dodging every tiny pothole, repair and ripple in the road, I reckon a speed bump would have made him stop and put his hazards on!

well the lanes that were fine here now arnt, thought the old passat was struggling understood why as soon as i tryed to walk on it, the road is now more like a polished sheet of ice

Like that round here tonight. Took the wife's fiat Ulysses out to the shops to save her venturing out tomorrow. New car so put it through its paces in the ice. Had to work hard to get it out of shape. Far more planted then the Renault scenic it replaced.

I see that even in those days the film makers art was more important than the subject - then again it was the 60s! Too much fancy camera work and editing.

A lot of the film-makers were straight out of college, same with the special effects guys. I like them, little time capsules in both senses.

If you want a really wacky solution to snow clearing, here's what British Rail came up with in '47. This design was a mixed success - good at clearing ice fast, also good at throwing ballast everywhere. Its use wasn't continued!

Iirc it was built to combat drifts - in the Peak District they were getting 6-10ft drifts, and repeated ramming with the plough didn't work. After the jet attempt they went back to work gangs, this provided work for the Germans and Italians who had stayed after being POWs on Britain.

Snow has killed my garage extension, But i found this ice formation hanging out of the guttering and stuck it upside down in the snow with a small torch under it people walking past have been a bit confused

Snowing here as well, but it's wet stuff and the temp has gone up from really minus to 'thawing ice'.

Forecast is looking good for tomorrow and the next few days, with any luck we'll get rid of the white stuff.

That is the great thing about the Angus coast, Carnoustie to Arbroath especially. Don't often get a lot of snow and one of the drier parts of these Islands

last lot of snow we had on the sunday morning i had to drive down baldwins road and up broadmeadow lane to avoid parsons hill as a long line of people had decided to stop on it and abandon their cars.
i was getting worried this morning might be a repeat but like you said it was gone pretty much by the afternoon.
i just hope all this wet weather doesnt now freeze

You would have been stuck on Parsons hill last week, they had temporary traffic lights on it today they're on Bells Lane causing chaos

someone drove into the light stack on brandwood park road not so long ago hence why the yellow markers missing and why the green signal light fell out of the housing
