TOLD YA an FBH n drift would fix it, it was easy for me! ( pressin buttons!!)
WtF is that axle off it is very narrow,sturdy, is it a Harvey Frost?

The FBH approached work better once the axle was removed. And yes is a Harvey Frost axle, it does need making wider and possibly 10" 4 stud wheels rather than 8" 3 stud wheels.

you could make two flanges that bolt to the original stud pcd hubs with holes drilled to accept mini wheels pcd, my ambulance type trailer uses 10" but with commercial type 8pr tyres.
Are you going to use it as a recovery crane ?

My plan was to remove the bolt and see if the stub axle will slide out ( I suspect it will but its rusted in place.) and replace with 10" stub axle etc
To make it wider, I was going to chop the axle in the middle, get some tube and sleeve over the old tube weld up around the ends and then widen the setup for the suspension and make it the same width as the Land Rover.
And yes I do use it as a recovery crane on car rallies.

There was a HF at my local scrappy a few months back if I'm passing I will have a look .
I do know of an axle that will take any weight you could throw at it, it is off a ex ministry bomb loader they are small wheels about ten inch pneumatic tyres but solid and the axle is about the right width. and you could have 2spare tyres I stripped it for the steering and transmission for a boat

I recently did the Pirrelli rally in Keilder forest and then next event for me is the Plains rally.
Not sure if I know you real life or not. Your local, North Wales?
I have done the RAC many years ago, but the UN is not from there its from owning a Lada Niva Cossack 4x4 (ex as in written off in a crash)
The axle could be interesting, would need to take a look. "pneumatic tyres but solid" is that a wheel with a rubber insert?

That does look an interesting bit of kit.

We used to use that type on forklifts they are called semi solids the tread is about 1.25" thick so that it is virtually impossible to get punctures, but they flex like a pneumatic.

We were doing the Plains but the navigator has shy ed off.
I thought it might have been Rogers sponsor COSSAK, I did the last RAC that Roger Clark did, in the mk11, did it with him in the team with TV's Chris Serl in the tv program In at the Deep End

Semi solid tyres would be interesting, and would certainly take the weight.

I used to live Pre Ewlow now about 5mls further
The woodyard is where i used to work
The rear axle is the drive axle and is a tube beam axle it has a diff in it but that could be removed coz I would think it would be fully floating therefore would not need the half shafts in to support the wheels. the only trouble is the chassis is near welshpool at a mates farm.

I liked the Malcolm Wilson stages, you pretty much guarantee a least one winch out on the Winlatter pass stage

It wasn't a bad stage the Woodyard. Quite a steep climb after dropping down the hill from the yard and up to the top.
The chassis is a bit far to go to have a look. I think I will be going down the route of splitting the tube and sleeve over.
