There is a guy who sells some good stuff on the usual auction place and his shop lists the venerable CV products as "King D*ck". I have bought some gear off him but never asked him why the *.

Prime tools still sell Britool old stock and so do several other respectable companies. If you ring them up it's pretty well the story you say old stock they are still trying to clear. Incidentally Prime tools even have some Britool Hallmark stuff on their website.

I can confirm the old stock story. I have some 3/8 and 1/2 drive impact socketry that I paid peanuts for from an outlet on the auction place that is one of primetools accounts. The sockets look the same as ones I bought in the early 90's.

I am currently waiting for the Snap on man to change a few spanners, its been 4 weeks and still no joy so as good as the spanners are I doubt I will buy any more, I like you used to feel they made the best chrome stuff but they are only as good as the warranty, which from what others tell me can be slow to change things so its not just me having a poor experiance

Just an update another 4 weeks has passed and still no replacement tools, how do you think I should progress this?

Does your snap on guy not come weeky? The tools are great but they are really iffy when it comes to replacement. I have had countless debates with my old man in a van as to whether use or abuse has been involved before it's been swapped. If he is refusing to honour the agreement and it's broken through normal use you do have grounds to take it further then do. What is actually damaged on them. It's a shame they get like this with replacement tools as its one of the biggest reasons they lose sales to other brands such as facom, Britool even halfords who will replace without question. I have a full set of snap on spanners that 6-32 that I bought individually over a number of years and come the day I brake one if its not swapped ill not be buying another.

I'd be phoning up or visiting and asking why on earth the replacements are not in your hand, and politely but very firmly telling him to sort it out. There shouldn't be any excuse for this length of wait, we all know that if you were buying them it'd be available within around a week!

It's a shame some people seem to be letting down the name - I'm starting to think I'm very fortunate to have a decent dealer who I'm satisfied will honor the warranty he tells you it has when you buy it. It shouldn't be necessary to push.

Yep you've got a rare snap on dealer there. I broke the knuckle on my 3/8 breaker bar last year and my dealer had it sitting in a vice for half an hour looking and (hoping to find ) witness marks along the shaft to show it had been sleaved with a tube so he could refuse me the new knuckle. Yep you heard right he removed the pin and fit a new knuckle in the old bar. You would like to think paying £3 per mm with the spanners In return the warranty would be as delightful as the gear.

My dealer makes it clear they are covered by warranty if you put a piece of pipe on, provided it is slid all the way down!

Worn out philips screwdrivers are replaced under warranty, in fact he actually told me that this would still be done if I used them on the wrong type (i.e pozi), while I was spending money getting pozi bits - I could have taken what he said and not bought the proper bits, costing him a sale!

Mines like bloody inspector morse looking for clues and evidence of miss use. And should he find any the van door is pulled shut!!!! Funny though the van door is soon flung open when a sale is on the cards.

That's part of the issue.
I am at an age when I no longer need any new tools unless I loose anything, so no add on sales for him, I just catch up with him when he is passing near home. Its mostly Eurotools spanners that the chrome has come off, I do understand he wont carry them on the van but two months is a bit much.

I bought 4 new snap-on master series boxes, over a decade ago (cost me 7k then), they've been ok.

The 10-19 common FD set I believe you won't get much change out of £250 now. Not sure about breaker bars but the new 80 tooth 3/8 ratchets are silly money. 75 ish I think.

Not that much I don't think, and less still if you get them while on offer.

Breaker bar - I got (on offer which helps) a 1/2 drive 36" (very, very long!) bar at £100, less a little discount and less a trade in against my other brand bar I was swapping out. I now swing off it knowing that if it breaks it won't cost!

If memory serves, a set of 10 to 19mm flank drive plus, which are far more expensive than ordinary spanners, was listed at £250. I think swapping 21, 22, 24 and 27mm spanners (ordinary, not flank drive plus) worked out at around £120, it's the large sizes where the price rockets.

If you get a good dealer though you find that prices can be very negotiable, and not only that but my chap will mix bits up to give you what you want, rather than a fixed set - e.g I may prefer a certain type of ratchet, so that'll get changed, may not want a certain length extension bar, may want a certain size socket etc.
