Snap On Road Chests

Sorry i should of given better clarification as this isn't for welding work i currently use one of these:

And it's fantastic. I take it onsite with me and leave big tools in the van. Which i run back and get with a tote bag.

What i need is a way of organising 19mm-36mm spanners, big adjustables, deep ½" sockets, etc etc. And keep them secure.

ive a genuine heavy duty road chest Ive had for 35 years , they simply keep working. Drawers on bearings can be trouble too. I would probably buy another if I ever needed too , but I cant see me having the need.

I'm thinking you need a pretty big box to store big Adjustables in - maybe back to Rollcab size drawers?

A regular snap on roll cab will put up with van use pretty well. A battered old 40" cheapest you can find would be ok IMO

I have a KRA 63C I believe its a similar spec to the road chests, it one of the heaviest boxes I have seen, made in Canada in my opinion Canadian boxes are of a better spec, very well made and quite rare.

I have the same chest as this...very heavy gauge steel and much heavier than the run of the mill Snap On stuff.

I have the small snap on box on a trolley which is portable so really want something that i can bolt down in the van.

Plastic boxes are no good to me. Someone will be into that in minutes. At least a steel box requires them to bring a crowbar and an angle grinder.

I like that the only thing that concerns me is there is no flap protecting the drawers. An advantage of my current box and hence why i like the idea of the road chests.

A lovely box though. If money was no object i'd have that for the workshop.

you have a pm showing you the setup as im not going to post it on an open forum

the mechanic had the deep sockets on those clip on bars to the side and had the shallow sockets within the drawers
the small spanners up to a large set fit into the top sliding drawers bottom drawer of the 6 to the right
middle bottom of the 6 was the sockets and torx bottom left was the steel chisels
middle was the open ended spanners

really large sockets and spanners went to the side well

hammers and large spanners went in the bottom drawer
2nd and 3rd draw up was an assortment

under the cover im not going to discuss but it was really solid

the tool box never moved or opened when closed as the lock kept it in place with the drawers shut

From memory it has locking bars at the back that lock the drawers when you close the lid. I had to buy it to get my Beach side cab bloke wouldn't split them. What you need is a nice weekend in Liverpool to se the sights and take a few souvenirs home

a set of bisley drawers goes a long way for 60 quid , the ones we took out of a local government office had a drop down lock bar on the front , a simple set up but very effective and humble money.

? so did you buy it , super cheap price including wood top , would have bought it myself but diesel made it un economical
