Just to note to pdg, if the rating plate says 160, that doesn't mean you can go higher. Ok the machine might cope with a bit more, but you may have to doctor thd feed speed to achieve it. Regardless of what the model number is, always base your choices on what the rating plate tells you.

David on here reckons he can run his Miller 220mpi 200amp machine at 280amps on a six foot run no problem. Are you saying although a machine like that can do it, it's bad for it or not a problem?

I bet I could pull 600 amps through it for a few seconds, it's just not a good idea. It's like a maximum rpm, how long will it last above that is anyone's guess but remove the limiter at your own risk.
You'll be voiding any warranty that you might've had and be reducing the lifespan of the set. Obviously there is a little leeway built into a machines components but exceeding a machines output by 40%, especially for a six foot run is not going to be good for it in the long run, and he won't have a leg to stand on if it fails.

I've had this with people using 1mm wire on a 220 amp set and telling the synergic machine 0.8mm is fitted to get it to feed faster so it will weld at 270-280 amps. Obviously they thought they were being extremely clever until the set went bang. The thermal trip didn't even have time to cut in, it just fried the IGBTs and driver boards. Not so funny when warranty is declined because they were silly enough to let slip what they were doing.

No not very clever at all. My Oerlikon 200 cuts out at 240A with a safety interlock after 2 seconds. Cranked it up a bit high when I first was setting it up on manual mode but machine soon told me to screw it back

There isn't an equivalent to that Snap on in the current Cebora line up. The Cebora Evo 160 M is the only machine around that price and obviously its a 160 amp.

In relation to the bigger casing comment, Cebora suggest that the "generous sizing of the components" add to their extraordinary reliability.....

It was indeed but had she not sunk I dont think the original welder talked about here would of being doing the repairs....
