snap on ctb 4145 impact driver ,whats it worth

Been offered a 14.4 volt impact, its brand new unused old stock, my geuss the batteries will be duff, what value would an old model be worth, I can re cell the battery cheap enough if need be, would get fair amount of use but dont know how to value out of date stock. thanks Arther

dunno the price of them, just tell him the bad points and the new ones are better he might fall for it then negotiate rub it in the price of a new battery

The battery's are the money with these things. The bodies with duff or no batteries fetch very little.

got to be worth a gamble to play about with , my mate has a 14v and uses it daily , says its not that good for wheel and joint work compared to his 18v one but for general engine and bodywork its his go to tool

Well same as anything for me its a tool and will be used as one, interesting to hear they are not good for wheel studs/nuts, as that was what its needed for !, anyways will get to check it out end of next week.will let you know. thanks Arther

Hi, As a guide secondhand price is usually 1/3 retail + or - desirability or supply and demand. So for £50 it's a good deal if your can pull it off.

Might be ok for wheel studs for you , just my mates a mechanic and most stuff in for repair are normally shagged or frozen on ,the 18v shows no mercy even on hubs ball joints etc ,but as I said they are usually in a bad way

I'm guessing it's probably a 3/8 impact wrench?

I don't know the SO cordless stuff but 14.4v is going to be the lower/medium stuff that's for general purpose work where things aren't big or very tight and a compact tool is a must.
If wanting to undo wheelnuts I'd say 1/2 ~18v, but I wouldn't go with SO - Milwaukee are the bees knees and are currently ahead of SO on the cordless gear from what I'm told. Plus they give an extra year on the warranty (3 years in total).
I've an M18 (not the highest spec as that came out after buying this one and it plays with the vast majority of wheelnuts and does driveshafts too.

Well there's a common problem - it's one thing to accept that you get what you pay for but another to also be able to spend it...

thats a great commercial, and yup if you use it every day all ok, ounce every two weeks or three not so cost effective,and I like kit that earns it keep and then me some too!Arther

I think you get what you pay for. The battery performance on the Milwaukee is way superior to the cheaper drills I have bought, they hold charge stored, charge very quickly and deliver plant of punch. I reckon at the current state with these they have done twice the work of the cheap ones they replaced.
