Snap on 130 feed wire tensioner!

I finally got my Snap-on mig welder 130 turbo working after the wire feed tensioner broke.

What a nightmare you can’t get these parts anywhere not even for the Cebora 130 turbo and BOC mig master 130, which I’ve been told have the same parts.

So had to make my own


Has any one else had this problem?

some others might have had that problem i am aware of other models faling on the wire tensioners though

When my Cebora 130 wire feed failed, it was the pivot point that snapped off (too much tension I guess). Fortunately that was some time ago & then spares were still available via BOC.
Would be very interested in to how you made the replacement feed roller holder.
I made a little metal bracket which braced the pivot point to prevent it snapping off again.

Very impressive, How did the original fail?
The pivot point is a weak link, you may have to end up modelling that too.
I’ve had problems with the feed on mine ever since I bought it, that was many years ago.
There have been several threads on the forum about changing the feed mechanism for something more robust, been sorely tempted on many occasions to follow suit.

Mine kept failing on the other end where the tensioner knob goes. Probably from where it had been left in the garage tensioned up for years

I'm sitting here with a broken one, modelling a new one in AutoCAD and Google image searched for what the original should look like. Then I found this thread!

Any chance of posting up the .stp / .stl file or PM'ing it to me?

ABS I see. I've only been successful here in PLA so far.

Though @Adee posted his fix up here I think he was printing and selling them at the link. He's not been on here since Feb 2020.

As you can see above I got so far modelling one (purple) but that was based on a severely worn one I was sent and some detail was missing/unclear. I'll see if I still have the pieces (I'm sure I do but where?)

If so then I'm up for firing up the CAD again and maybe you can fill in the blanks so to speak if handy with a Vernier and rule!

@Zakjack , I did some digging...

It was a lad over on the Capri Power forum wanted one. He sent me his old worn one, covered in glue and a bit melted from memory from a half ar$ed repair attempt. I got this far. You can see the original roller sat in the portion I printed. I then put him onto @Adee above and he bought one I think from him. At that point I stopped my "development" and sent both bits back.

If you wanted to post me your one if not too damaged I could finish this design off and send you the file in return.

No charge of course though you could slip it into a crate of Speights if you wanted.....

Or measure what you have there and just throw as many dimensions onto this:

I have the Cebora machine, I believe the BOC & Snap on are badge engineered variants.
Never had the piece you are remanufacturing break but did have the spindle on which it pivots snap. Did manage to source a replacement back plate complete with spindle but I believe they too are not available anymore.
I did add a metal bracket which braced the spindle to prevent it snapping again.

@Onoff wow thanks really appreciate that! I think i can finish off the measurements as mine only has one break in it, but I did glue it a wee bit just to get it semi operational.

I'll have a think about posting it to you, I would certainly send you something for your efforts! A crate of speights to go with might cost me more than this blasted welders worth!

Whereabouts in NZ are you? Got an old workmate runs a niche design/fab place in Wellington who I know would print. Also most of my time was spent in Dunedin and I know loads of various types of engineers there from shop floor to chartered engineers.

Post the part to me if you want or add measurements / correct if need be, the render above that I've annotated. I'll mod the solid here and get printing.

As I said above I gave up trying to model it as the broken/melted original I had wasn't intact enough to measure.
