Some people are just beyond thepalelaw.
Fixed that for you.
Some people are just beyond thepalelaw.
Yep, for a few reasons.
First, and crucially, what problems do you think you have with your home electrics that needs to be solved? A lot of these kinds of adverts drum up some kind of holocaust-level issue that realistically we are not really suffering.
Next is the idea that "the last metre" is going to make any difference at all. A comparable snake oil candidate is Russ Andrews £65 power cable - why would this 1m cable magically rectify the shortcomings in the 100m cable in your house, the 4Km run to the substation, and the 15Km run to the distribution hub? it won't - it's like me having 15 Happy Meals and then eating a satsuma as an antidote.
Just looked at that link, its actually amazing they sell any of that, £65 for the cable, £15 to burn it in, £50 to freeze it and £25 for the bloody fuse
Not surprisingly there has been £millions spent on just this very thing!- it's like me having 15 Happy Meals and then eating a satsuma as an antidote.
People love it, ive seen some distinctly average systems connected up with huge amounts of over priced cable, silver plated fuses and special mains leads.
If you can hear the difference a cable makes, one of the cables is faulty
Domestic bills are based on apparent power so power factor correction makes no difference to the cost.power correction factor is something that is used in industrial settings though, to reduce electricity costs, although the electrical consumption of a factory with high powered machinery is more likely to benefit than someone turning a kettle on at home.
if you saw top gear the other week with the hybrid lambo on it with capacitors instead of batteries, its a bit like that when the capacitors cut in under peak demand for a very short period to smooth the power transition. (on that car it was to give a boost in power out of the corners)
anyway Im sure someone who knows about industrial electricity will be along soon to confirm how they work.
30 years ago I was working for a company and they has to stagger the starting of their power presses in a morning to reduce the demands on the electrical network, and the had some gubbins fitted that reduced the time getting all the machinery running, and because the peak current was reduced, there was a small saving in electricty.
Of course it works. Plug one into every socket and you can’t plug anything else into it. Massive saving.
I kow it's a little off topic but this was one of the most shocking ones of recent years:
The story of the fake bomb detectors
The sentencing of a British couple for making fake bomb detectors marks the end of a series of trials after a global scam which saw the devices end up in conflict zones and used by governments around the world.www.bbc.co.uk
Fake bomb detectors that were actually bought by governments and sent to work in war zones!

Apparent power is what most of us pay for, at least those of us with an analogue meter. True power is what you pay for with Smart meters. If you've anything other than resistive loads connected to your meter, then you'll have a lowering of power factor. That includes: motors, new-fangled electronics such as USB chargers and LED lamps, the odd phase converter (), welders of all flavours, and probably a few more things that I can't think of at the moment.Domestic bills are based on apparent power so power factor correction makes no difference to the cost.
Industry is charged for real power so PFC makes a big difference.
Yes but it's connected to the wires from hydro-electric power, to wash it clean.Dirty electricity? Doesn't that come from coal-fired power stations?
I though thats what washing machines did?Yes but it's connected to the wires from hydro-electric power, to wash it clean.
YesIs this just another con?

We fit out fancy kitchens for people with too much money that have moved up from Darn Saaaf!....they buy all these fancy filters and water softeners and drink 'Pure' water out of plastic bottles.I'm not sure 'gullible' is quite the word I'd use. We are all (well, the peasants among us, and I include me) at the mercy of privatised service providers who will give us the absolute minimum they can get away with while charging us the absolute maximum they can get away with. We've all got dirty electrics, dirty phone lines, filthy water supply, etc.,
I was briefly in royal engineers/EOD back in 2013/14 and this is genuinely true. Equipment was being supplied as tested to front-line soldiers which had no quality audit trail. Surprising how little practical testing was done then to guarantee value for money.I kow it's a little off topic but this was one of the most shocking ones of recent years:

Oh please, don't get me started on that one.We fit out fancy kitchens for people with too much money that have moved up from Darn Saaaf!....they buy all these fancy filters and water softeners and drink 'Pure' water out of plastic bottles.
Were in Edinburgh, the water barely touches the hills before its out the tap best council juce in the country!
