Smoke from new welder

My local welding supplies fella told me that the industrial, silver coloured SIP welders were a decent bit of kit that suffered from the name the smaller rig-outs had made for themselves.
He was a time served welder as well before he started selling and in 10+ years of dealing with him cant say I've ever had a reason to doubt him.

I'm a big fan of restoring a 25 year old SIP and getting the best out of it with the various modifications that are listed on this forum.

But if that's a new unit and it's behaving as described (in text and in pictures) then it's b******d and needs to be sent back.
Much as it pains me to say, as an ex SIP owner, I'd be asking for my money back and putting it toward a more reliable unit

That pretty much sums things up perfectly. It's absolute silliness farting around with a new item. Get it replaced or refunded.

This is sorted now.

A repair engineer came to assess and took it away. The shop I purchased from then sent a new unit.

I used it Today right away and there was no smoke or smell. I noticed this one does not flick the lights in the house. Am pretty happy. I got great practice in for my roof panel replacement.

I plug welded 100 or so welds to replace the crushed roof on to the donor car. I built the plugs up too high though and spent ages grinding but lesson learned.... DON'T SPEND 10 SECONDS PER WELD LOL

Next up is the good roof onto the repaired car Am happy with this welder!
