smith and arrow have an address in london at canary wharf as a limited company and they have to submit certain documents to companys house as they are a foreign but it doesnt show up on the register apparently they dont have to actually register as a uk company does

I e-mail them & asked them directly if they had a uk phone number & if the uk branch is closed. This is the reply-
No we do not have the UK phone number there any more. We conduct all business on line but call customers when they prefer that. Our stock is in the UK, but our staff are in Australia. Would you like for us to call you, or would you like to place an order via this email address ? You are welcome to call us, but it will be calling an Australian number.

Looks like it's now a foreign run business with stocks in the uk. A bit dodgy if you have a problem with an order. Might be ordering my goods elsewhere.

Must be a lot of shift work available at the head office then. Wonder how long that will last?
Reads like they've had problems with their UK distributor (the UK one of similar name could've been formed by some other UK person for the purpose), and they've got someone over here handling stock for now. There was a nearly identical situation with a brake hose supplier re names.

Hi all,
Thanks for the interest.
Smith & ARROW is still going strong in the UK and still selling well to members of this forum.
To answer the initial enquiry, we used to trade in the UK and Europe through a UK registered company (and in New Zealand through a separate NZ Company, and the same in the USA) but have since changed our corporate structure and now trade in all countries through the Australian registered company: Smith & ARROW (Australia) Pty Ltd.
We hold our European stock in London, our USA stock in Michigan, our NZ stock in Auckland and our Australian stock in Sydney. The bulk of our Administration is based in Queensland Australia.
This was done purely to reduce costs and has worked well.
A quick scan on our eBay feedback will show that our UK and European customers are indeed happy ones, and that our products are selling well.
We still offer a 20% discount to all members of this forum and some members still take advantage of it. Over the next month we will be reducing our prices on our UK website and this 20% discount will still apply. Should any of the members of this forum wish to take advantage of this discount, they are very welcome to contact me directly with their order and I will personally see to it that they are looked after.
It was only because of a silly mistake made by a blog devolopment sub-contractor who plagiarised information from mig-welding.co.uk, that the original discussion and offer to this forum was removed. The relationship with the sub-contractor was terminated immediately but not before the damage had been done to what was, and still is, the best on-line relationship my company has ever formed.
Thanks to all for the ongoing interest in Smith & ARROW and our products.
