...It'll be a data push over an 'always on' connection - the same 'always on' connection that (almost) everybody has on their mobiles now.

Was wondering about a 4 wire system with 5v 12v 24v, as lots of 5v usb then drop the 12 to 6 and 9 and the 24 covers just about anything else with buck–boost converters. Need to find some heavy copper cable and have a play. The only issue with having dc around the house is what voltage do you choose?

In a full offgrid one though, it becomes an issue when your batteries are going flat at 4am![]()
Efficiency isn't a problem when it's a choice between having the facility or not.
have u looked in to the price of batteries and how long they last before u have to renew them . if it was profitable and viable everyone would have themWith a few comments about going off grid has anyone looked at distributing DC around the house?
it's something i keep thinking about apart from the Kitchen, Vacuum Cleaner & Boiler everything else either has a transformer or SWPS on the power lead. All operating at varying levels of efficiency. Lighting could stay mains as all LED. If you had a direct DC feed from a combination of wind & solar charging a battery bank, the mains could be off most of the time maybe just a high efficiency trickle charge to the batteries.
would the be possible without correcting each individual load on the circuitOne aspect not mentioned - power factor correction.
I assume a smart meter could compensate for loads which don't have a power factor of 1, so I guess this would work in the suppliers' favour?
Wouldn't mind a meter that was inaccurate in my favour, now that would be a smart meter![]()
I am very happy with our old spinning disc meter, especially when it goes backwards on a sunny dayWouldn't mind a meter that was inaccurate in my favour, now that would be a smart meter![]()
What about pumped storage ? how efficient is that ?have u looked in to the price of batteries and how long they last before u have to renew them . if it was profitable and viable everyone would have them
