better clamping

ER clamp better than 5C do they? I know they fit a wider range of diameters so you don't need as many of them which is appealing, and ER collects seem to be cheaper too. Is there a reason why 5C are so expensive.

I'd never given it any thought but that does make sense. I've never had anything slip in a 5C and I have messed around with stupidly heavy cuts so it not like the 5C is lacking at all.

A mate had a S&B with all the accessories, bought it from a longtime friend, gezz was that thing well built, the swing over the saddle was limiting imo, but other than that a very nicely built machine, capable of very close tolerance work.

I like er collets as you say very good clamping forces, i use them for both tool and work holding, good repeatability

not that its all that useful to me right at the moment, as its 250 miles away from where i live...


purchased, with a load of other incompatible bits for £181 off ebay
the incompatible bits went back on ebay, and sold for £180

This was probably 5 or 6 years back, so fairly recently, on the scale of things.

(i have a selection of chucks and wheels with it also - all in the £181 / £1 purchase price)

We'll it wasn't me, set my budget at 500 and had to stick to it after blowing my budget massively in December for my new welder when I was seduced by a plasma too....oh well next time
