OK thanks. It all helps when keeping an eye out for bits and bobs to add to the armoury. The bed on the L and the M are the same. But center height is half inch higher on the L unfortunately.
Believe the A is different. Someone bought one a few days ago on here. Might be worth an ask.
Actually that's not quite right. The tailstocks are identical but the l has a higher shoe to allow for the center height. I could mount the L crosslide on the M but wouldn't be able to mount the Ms saddle on the L. It's a much narrower bed but the profiles match.OK thanks. Can't find any decent pics of the A but looks like it has a v front and back.
Backlash or on the gibs?OK thanks. I'll keep my eye out generally and worry about details as and when anything comes up.
One of the first things to sort out will be taking the play out of the cross slide. I also need to decide if I want to run the gauntlet of eBay with the 'spare' lathe or harvest the useful bits and sell/weigh in the rest as there's not much interest for buying it as a running machine.
Backlash, the Gibs seem spot on. Everything move smoothly and seems tight enough but there's some slack when you change rotation from forward to reverse and if you grab it and do a little pull/push there's a fair bit of end float. There's no (discernible by hand/eye) movement in the threads.Backlash or on the gibs?
The halfnut has some backlash adjustment.
I made a screwdriver for adjusting the Gibs easily enough.
There's two nuts with holes in between the graduations and the handles. They may need nipping up a little.Backlash, the Gibs seem spot on. I had a little experiment with those earlier this morning. Backed off the locking collar and tightened up the face collar but there didn't seem to be enough movement to take up the slack. I didn't want to force them (and ran out of fiddling time!) but I'll take it apart when I get chance and see if it's a matter of cleaning them out. If not then I'll have to look at options with shims etc. I must get a manual too. There's two nuts with holes in between the graduations and the handles. They may need nipping up a little.
