Looking at the near future at replacing my car with a small van. I currently have a 2005 5 series and whilst its been brilliant and easy to work on its lacking in space, i always have to borrow the other halfs tiguan for dump trips, picking things up etc. She's getting annoyed at finding slugs on the roof lining after I've had garden waste in there!
I don't do massive miles so don't mind having a van as my only 4 wheeled vehicle but would like something SWB and low roof so it feels more like a car. I occasionally drive a LWB merc sprinter when im at work and I definitely don't want something that big, plus it averages 22mpg! I want to start competing in enduro so a key thing for me is being able to fit a motorbike or 2 in the back plus a bit of gear relatively easily so that does away with the smallest vans like vito's etc.
Money no object id probably get a VW transporter but i think they are overpriced for what they are and people buy them because they kind of look cool, I like the look of the transit customs or the older SWB low roof transits but no idea of what their reputation is like.
Renault traffics, vauxhall vivaro and nissan primastar weirdly all seem to be the same van, again don't know anything in detail about these but feel like as the transit has been around a long time it may be a better option?
Looking at £5-6k budget so probably going to be getting one thats got a few miles on it
