Once the new lawn is laid up against it it will probably only show a couple of bricks high so planing can do one

The way it's measured where we are is the ground adjacent to the house is the starting point....I'm on a slope (downhill) so turned out my 1.5m high deck wasn't a raised deck after all....got to love planning rules

If the brick is against earth I'd suggest using either engineerings (bit ugly) or descent frost rated. We used frost rated in our front garden and it makes a massive difference with moisture and salts etc.

I looked on google...30cm above the existing ground adjacent to the house seems familiar.

I really need to get my string and levels out and see what I actually need to do so I can get the materials ordered.

@SierraV6 I'm going to be cutting the slabs myself that's why I just had to by 2 Stihl saws....

You do realise that the discs can be replaced, you don’t have to buy another saw each time they wear out

I've been out there for a couple of hours but just can't work out what level the bloody patio needs to be at!
The drains are too high but the hoppers are sitting on the foundations so can't go any lower without knocking 2/3" out of them!


Anyone know if I can get a low profile drain hoppers?

Does the drain need to be where if is or could you move it so its off the foundations?

It doesn't look from the picture as if anything drains into it, and if its there to drain your patio I would have thought sloping the patio away from the wall would be the better idea, in which case the drain is irrelevant?

I had just removed the downpipe It's on the new extension and goes into a soakaway. There's another one on the other side that's also set on the footings

dont forget back end is shallower so fitting an elbow is ok but brings it more outwards onto the path area instead a of against the house

note only specialised plumbers will stock it rest only buy the standared gullys

Well I've been at it today and have now got the above drain sorted out
I took a couple of inches out of the slab and dug out the trench again so now the pipe sites better, the hopper is level with the existing paving and there's a better gradient on the pipework.
Backfilled with sharp sand and some MOT.

You can always put a trap - U section - lower down at the corner if you have room !!

you can do a shallow trap just by using elbows and length of the unit

however cost is always a problem so best to use what you think is best

Lol. This yard and barn are all 7 to 9 inches deep concrete … deep enough for the 22 ton ploughing engine on steel wheels . I personally dug it out ( mainly with a digger it has to be said), mixed it all with a tractor and laid it …. all over one summer. Can’t remember how many tons of 3/4 to dust and bags of cement it was …. an awful lot!!!! But roughly a third of the cost of readymix at the time.

I've a similar project on the go but luckily only had to barrow in 6 tonnes of mot type 1 , did have a compact tractor front end loader to fill the barrow tho Wacker plated down today ready for paving
