Small powered mitre saw

Can anyone suggest a good mitre saw for accurate 45 degree cuts for window beads. I've used boxes in the past and none were very good so am looking for an electric one.

Reviews on line always seem to have a few saying, "it's rubbish, not accurate".

Plenty of good used ones on Marketplace such as Dewalt, Bosch and Metabo, especially in 110v if you have a transformer. If you’re only using it for window beads then go for the smallest blade and take the time ensure the blade angle is calibrated correctly. Even new saws need to be calibrated

I've got a cheapy mitre saw I've had for years. 40t blade instead of the 24t std.
I use a small engineering square to true the blade vertically, and use a roofing square to check my 45 lateral.
It's not bad (chances are it's very amateur operator is more iffy than the saw tbh).

Depends what you want to spend.
A new evolution rage plus a few parts and an afternoons fiddling can be made into a accurate machine for under £150 (although you might also want a more suitable blade?)

A new bosch is about £450 and can be got near perfect with an hours messing (although half of that time was checking rather than adjusting anything)

A good investment is a setting block, I've got a lump of stainless that's ground to 90deg and 45deg with reliefs ground out for the teeth.

If its not going to be used day in and day out for business, check your local Aldi & Lidl shop's. My neighbour bought a Parkside one from Lidl recently, and with a few minutes of adjustment it cut precise angles.

if you have a little bit of free wood you can make your own up and use a circular saw instead of buying something

These seem to be pot luck,
Avoid any if the box is already open as someone has probably returned that one as its way off!
Others seem to be fine out of the box or you might have to spend a couple of hours stripping it down to remove a bit of casting flash..

I tried an erbauer, returned 2 of them, first one dead out of box, 2nd blade protection broke, got a small DeWalt it's been great, budget can be cheap but sometimes you get what you pay for.

If it is for window beads, would the thing that picture framers use, that looks like a small beheading guillotine angled at 45 degrees work (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256946592119)? It would be super accurate.

There is a Proxxon small mitre saw, but I do not know the quality It is priced at a level that should be good quality.

A school set square is cheap enough to use as a setting gauge for a powered saw, as above, and being plastic can be filed to miss the teeth on the saw.

If you look at GT, there are a few manual ones - something (block of wood or aluminium) cut at an accurate 45 degrees with magnets glued in. Use with a Japanese-type saw with no set to the teeth so the blade stays stuck to the guide (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/197357702392). That is the problem with traditional ones - the slot has to clear the set of the blade's teeth, so the saw can wobble.

Although I haven't used it in years, I still have my Dads vintage Stanley cast iron mitre box and hand saw. Superbly accurate, yet slow if you have a lot of cuts t do. I see there are a couple of them on offer on the bay of evil; but if having a power saw isn't a priority, they are a fine tool.

Don't know if they are in your area, but here in South Wales there are " Cash Generator " shops, which are like pawn shops. I always have a look when passing by one, as they get a lot of hand power tools in, and I often see a mitre saw of some make on offer.

If its just for window beads you don't need a sliding one.
Thats good as it makes the saw more accurate.
Any saw can be made to cut accurate, staying accurate is a different story.
I have a Parkside one and I can get it set up cutting perfect mitres but 5 minutes later it is off. I think it is due to slop in the pivots and slides. It is now on firewood duty and for anything accurate I use an Hitachi I bought second hand.

Stick to decent makes like Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, Metabo, Hitachi and you should be ok. Just make sure there is adjustment built into the saw so that you can zero it in.
