I've been hankering after a lathe for many years, but simply don't have the space to fit one in - or so I thought. It occurred to me the other day that I have an old outhouse that used to be an outside toilet, but now just houses a selection of things I don't want to throw away - junk basically. There are some Yorkshire stone slabs in there that I intend to lay in the back yard next summer, and the rest of the stuff can either be thrown or relocated.
The space is 2 ft 8 inches (813 mm) wide by 4 ft 4 inches (1321 mm) long and the height varies between 6 feet and 8 feet (pitched roof). What lathes would fit in that space and allow room for an operator (me) as well? I presume I could only fit some kind of hobby lathe in there - it's the depth of the bed that would be the major problem as far as I can see.
