Small benchtop metal basher

Something small to bash, bend, heat, straighten metal on, never really going to have a need for a real anvil - I know this has been done to death

Cut off a bit of bullhead track to 16" length, which will be under bolted to a lump of wood which I will route out a bit to sit it in but also unbolt to stick in vice when needed.





The Bosch hole saw set has been very good





This stuff cuts nicely







Lots of grinding next to flatten top and bottom & shape up horn, bit of paint maybe, and of course a lampshade fitment

cut a piece of board fasten it to it

then send it at side of the bandsaw as it will be clocked in so will only take a slither of steel off of it

grinding it will take forever

That's a thick old piece to cut through on the vertical bandsaw! Taking shape nicely though.

I have a chunk of track to do the same but unfortunately never got the circular tuit with it.

I'd like to find a short bit of track to use as an anvil myself.
Every now n then you just need a solid lump of metal to put something on while you wallop it .
Like the OP, a proper Anvil would be OTT for me, and I dont have the space for it.
A small lump of Rail is ideal multi-use IMO (counterweight, heat sink, anvil, door stop, prop.....)

Yours mate - 20" section ok? - I can cut smaller in 5mins if you need.
I can drop or pick up whenever, unless you're in a hurry?

It machines really nicely, I tried back to back with/without WD on the hole saw and the bandsaw and it's better without, this cast steel chips and powders so small its like self lubricating

@RWD3M done anything with your doorstops yet

Around half that would be ideal I am certainly in no hurry!! When you are up this way, drop in for a cuppa and a play in the new workshop

Ha ha, not yet. I'm expecting a mill to be donated shortly, actually, it's already been donated, I just don't have the space for it at the moment. Once it's here I'll be on them!

I got this finished last week, I don't have a mill big enough to make this an easy job and taking a slither off the top with the bandsaw would be.... difficult.

Opted for power sander with some decent zirconia belts, not cheap but worth it, some of the pitting was deep as 1mm at a guess so it took about an hour and 2 belts.



Sometimes you got to use what you have..



That's as flat as I can be bothered, wiped the bright with beeswax, graphite, turps melt, will stop it from rusting anytime soon.
Couple of licks of Hammerite, bolted to block, but will route out to sit in a bit.

I'm struggling with where the lam shade is going to go so will give that a miss
Anyway should save me cracking another vice and putting dents in my SS worktop

You should have brought it up here, the Centec would have decked it in a few minutes
