Slugs

It`sthat time of year again,slugs getting in to the house.I think they could be coming in through an outside air brick.Any ideas of a solution.

Mix table salt and washing up liquid to a paste.
Paint on their routes.

It will stop them.

Copper stops them. Bit of wire around the brick..
You can get copper tape too if they're coming through door threshold or something like that.

The copper works better when it has weathered.

Or build beer slugs traps.

I don't kill anything, even slugs, so copper would be my method.

240v woud not be enough for these rascals,need 440v.

Cover the airbrick with a finer mesh I put perforated zinc sheet over some of my air bricks just make sure you check them regularly for free air flow.
Beer traps are very effective against slugs and at least they die happy

We had a rhubarb plant that seriously attracted slugs and snails, got rid of it and hardly see any now. What sort of folage do you have around the house?

Get a house hedgehog . We get slugs and find the trails across the tiles in the morning, you have to get up while it's still dark to catch them out.

That`s a good point.The wife is forever feeding the birds using feeding station attached to the wall directly over the air brick.It could be that the bird food falling on to the ground is attracting the slugs?

My neighbour took it upon himself to build me a snail and slug proof fence to protect my runner beans. He experimented and found that a normal 6v lamp battery is more than sufficient. It didn't seem to stop the buggers though. I think they started parachuting in

I`ve tried that but the Grandson keeps falling asleep when he is on guard.

I used to have this battle all the time in an old terrace house I lived in. There was no sign of cracks or air bricks anywhere so I just couldn't figure out how they got in.
This was an old house so no modern damp proof course, only the drilled injected chemical type which are useless. The damp seems to attract them and they used to make a path for the dog food bowl.
If yours is an old property and you don't have pets, without ripping out your interior from the house and perfectly plastering up every crevice it's a loosing battle in my opinion. I moved to a more modern house in the end. Still had the dog so she was ruled out as the source of entry. Never experienced slugs again.

I experimented with various batteries connected across two parallel copper wires. 12V car battery is enough to make their insides leak out. 9V PP3 gives them a tickle. 240V AC would probably fry them. I think it's the current rather than the voltage that kills them.

That's the first thing I'd try. Also check to see if you have any damp, dark crevices anywhere. If the slugs are already inside, they'll head for a moist, dark spot to hide away during daylight hours.
