SLIT IN STAINLESS CAN IT BE FILLED

Ok the image is a stainless cover on a Bingham plucking machine, one of the plates was out of alignment and cut the slit as shown. Can this be filled with either mig or tig? If so any advice on how to proceed as not a competant welder in either format. I can simply gaffa tape it to cover but would like to do it properly as part of a bigger refurb and service of the whole machine. The split is approx. 15mm x 3mm wide, plate approx. 1mm thick.

Easily bridge that. Tig would look neater. depending on the rigidity of the item you might get a little distortion

This kind of thing is my bread and butter, as Richard says TIG is the way to go, make a backing bar from a piece of flattened copper pipe and slip it up behind to give something to weld against and also to take away some heat, tack the open end first, and perhaps a couple of further tacks along the joint to stop it from moving.
