Sliding Mitre Saw recommendations

Rather stupidly, I put my mitre saw on the floor of the workshop recently rather than putting it away properly. I managed to knock it with the tractor one evening and have bent it so it no longer cuts straight or square.

I'm a DIY user but do like things like the angles to be accurate when I use them.

I have recently started collecting Milwaukee stuff but I really dont think I can stretch to the £500+ for their smallest sliding mitre saw. Ideally I would like to go bigger anyway. New Dewalt stuff is really out of the price range I want to spend on this.

How useful is double bevel vs single? The latter tend to be cheaper but I dont think i have ever used the function on my old (now bent) saw so not sure I need it on a new one if it saves some pennies

I am happy with a 240v corded saw to be honest as I dont move around much so its no big deal to get an extension out when needed.

What are you using and happy with? Preferably sub £500

Check out your local facebook marketplace, you might find a quality old saw for not much cash.

my DeWalt sliding miter saw is now 20 years old........it's done a lot of work....still accurate as new....
I'd only change it for a 350mm blade model....mines only 305mm....and yes it does make difference.....
plenty of used ones.....Makita is as good.....the Bosch looks great with less working room needed but those pivot bushed will soon get loose.....

be careful if u go for a smaller type DeWalt some of the early ones have no spares.......I have one in for repair and no parts anymore....luckily I can make the nec parts.....

Thanks. Already keeping an eye on there for something local. At the minute there are a few dewalt models but quite tired looking or out of budget. There are a few Bosch ones on there that might be worth a punt. Some 110v stuff which isnt too much of a pain as I have a transformer.

Are there any stand out models - particularly of those two brands to look out for if they come up as a bargain?

Not sure it's up to fine carpentry but I enjoy my low cost Evolution saw. I like the fact it is multi material and have found this really useful.

most m/saws are fully adjustable for angle accuracy.....
I wont buy Bosch new anymore...v bad experience with some new kit.....

I bought the DeWalt saw above as they were the only firm making one that big and then only available in 110v.....after a year or so Makita made one and that would have been my first choise after testing them out....I only buy Japanese electric tools new now.....
Mine sits on a rolling stand / bench......

Just gonna say as ATGNI,
I bought a used Evolution, think it's a 250mm, saw at a price that was to good to miss....20 squids....it the slow speed metal cutting type....
I now use it for chopping up branches (fire wood from tree trimmings and small metal tubes)
It's quite light as it gets chucked in the van for smaller jobs....After I adjusted all the stops it accurate enough for door mouldings even with the metal/wood/plastic cutting blade...
I'd say unless ur making hardwood furniture the Evo is just fine....BUT only get a quality blade.....I use the Evo blade.....

For fine cuts I like my festool sliding mitre but they're expensive unless you can pick one up second hand.

The Evolution is a good general purpose saw....it did an amazing job on cutting angled bricks when I was repairing a bay window and is fine for things like making a shed or a deck. Its not the saw for fitting a kitchen for example but it's good as a general saw... I'd say the best choice depends on the intended use.

Have an old Makita LS1013 that i have had for over 10 years and has helped build 2 houses plus lots of projects. still works well

Not sure what their newer stuff is like.

I bought a used Milwaukee 254mm M18 mitre saw for £300 with a couple of bits missing that cost me a further £60. It’s been a great machine coupled with the Dewalt stand. My previous was a corded B&Q Performance non sliding and never cut as accurately or powerfully as this one. If you can pus( the budget another £85 then I’d recommend one at the drop of a hat.
If not and your not bothered about cordless there are a few Festool corded ones coming up on Marketplace or the Festool group on Facebook

I’ve got one also probably around 7 years old. Love it. Only issue I’ve had is batteries in the laser - it’s very easy to leave it turned on !! I’d defo get one with a laser.

I bought my dewalt dw708l 110v off Facebook for €300 in perfect condition.
Same as this one.

A chippy was selling it as he'd gone cordless as apparently getting access to an extension lead on some sites these days involves filling out forms.

Something like this would be ideal. I really dont mind corded for this. Unless Milwaukee i dont want a battery one really.

PowerToolMate have them at £584, £34 saving on a used one isn’t really a saving as you’ll get 3 years warranty with the new one when registered.
There is quite a lot of new kit been sold on marketplace that are competition wins, if you get the invoice with them you can still register for extended warranty

Having said that, one has the weigh up the cost v usage. I would love a 305mm Dewalt, but have got by for years with an Erbauer 254 single bevel jobbie. Has been accurate enough, but it got knocked over and broken last summer, so is now on log cutting duty.

I bought an Evolution one, and IMO its a good enough machine for most people, unless you are making bespoke furniture.

I am also on the lookout for a used 305mm Dewalt one, but bear in mind that, unless you are very lucky, will have been used commercially, and likely been in and out of a van many many times.

Another vote for the 255mm evolution double bevel...
I don't use the bevel function much but it's worth having...
Use the Evo blades...
It's also great as you can get a specific tile, cement board blade too

And another. Got an Evo MTS 255 DB+ off Amazon a few weeks ago to replace a second hand single bevel evo that I’ve had for ten years. It is still reduced £100 to £260 at the moment…
