Sleeving brake drums

Possibly one for @8ob this one. One of the drums on the Volvo is just in so on the wear limit, I suspect it’s had sand or mud in it and worn it. There’s a 1.5mm lip and some scoring.

New drums are available but 270 quid each posted from Sweden, which is horrifying. I seem to recall in the depths of my mind seeing drums being sleeved, is this something still done?

I have a Reliant Fox camper in for restoration. I am in the middle of replacing all of the brake components only to find that the drums are NLA. The originals are quite worn and not really fit for re-use. At one time every town had an engineering shop that could deal with it, but all my searches today have come up with nothing significant.

Are there any recommendations? May be more than just a skim required.

It’s right on the limit, I’ll turn the lip off but would like some meat on

They're not sleeved, they're cast in.

To be fair defender 110 rears drums can be modified to fit but I don’t have time to do all 6

Possibly, although the tgb drums are heavier and have cast ribs to better dissipate the heat so I’m loathe to go away from it, also the tgb wheels are 8 stud and the drive members are considerably bigger than LR!

He’s on the main tgb group and hasn’t replied to my post asking for anyone uk based so I’m guessing they e gone got 2 places going to send me prices tomorrow

I looked into this for my Unimog.

They do two stages of replacement thicker shoe linings. OR new drums, which are similar money. Maybe Volvo did the same ? Then again, for the military, cost is no object.

Back in the day, for a short period I worked at a reconditioners in Bristol, rivetting new linings on old shoes. They also reground (not turned) drums, but even then, I do not recall them, or anyone else sleeving drums, or seeing any adverts for it either.
