Sledge/scrambler contraption

I've been making something like this ebay ali sledge.
I'm really rather tempted to blow some dough on this mini moto 49cc scrambler and mate the rear wheel and motor from it to the sledge.

I know this is really rather silly for the 3 days a year when I might get to actually use it, and there's probably a whole bunch of regulations for building and using (not that i can find anything on-line at the Highways Agency), but it would be a cool project

I've spent far too long today researching this. I think chains would provide sufficient grip: Youtube vid.
I'd probably go for a different configuration, to stretch the seating position.

Edit: tracks might be better, but think they might be hard to come by in the UK.

you would need some old conveyer belt and a couple of rollers to suit with a way of driving the belt and away you go

Conveyor belt might be a little smooth, and buying the scrambler means it comes with almost all the gear needed for the project, apart from the sledge, obviously (and the chain for the wheel).

That is a stupid idea. Great one.
Go for it.
Just remember if you get it anywhere near finished it will not snow for two years, and all of the kiddies in the Uk will hate you for ever.
I have seen a hilarious picture of a halftracked triumph Tiger Cub with a ski on the front for snow play. Sounds a bit like what you are thinking of.

Go for it! Traction will be your biggest enemy. Screw a few wheels together (side-by-side)? Put a belt on top of the wheels? Or make a chain-thingy with L-profiles to dig into the snow?

Take the tyre off and bolt some pieces of angle iron to it then refit it. Fill the tube with expanding foam and stand well back.

Having watched a load of scrapheap epsiodes tracks seem to allways come off.
Chains might be the better idea, they say if you use a thinner tyre the reduced contact patch to the snow increases the pressure and improves grip but I wouldnt really know that.
Another idea is to drill a load of holes in yer tyre and put roofing bolts through so far to give grip, you'd have to then either use an inner tube with loads of protection from the bolt heads or maybe some tyre dont go flat foam.
You could even sort something where you can use standard wheels for when it int snowing.

I remember my dad doing that to his Fiat 131 back in the 80's when we last had a big snow.

A single tyre even with chains will not push that along flat snow.

Traction would be severely limited even if all the weight was on a single tyre pushing it into the snow.
The runners will take a lot of weight and any drive from the wheel will be pathetic.
Just think, a powerful 4 wheel drive with snow chains struggles anything but compacted snow.

For a successful snow vehicle you need almost all of the weight to be distrubuted across a very large motive contact patch with the ability to deform and grab into the snow.
You have yourself a snowmobile or a vehicle with 4 very large, soft tyres.

Or, to provide thrust......you then have yourself a aero-ski.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to weld up a screw with an narrow cylinder, you would need substantial horsies to turn it tho.

Heres a proper one, from the 20's

You could make something using a gas bottle as the screw, with flat bar welded to make the screw profile, with 2 threads you might have enough grip to push the cart with a single screw at the rear centre, putting it together would be reasonably complex though, as the drum would need to be inline, a scooter power unit has the rear wheel 90 degrees from travel, you'd have to put the engine/box sideways.

If you built one of those screw drives you could use it on mud, sand and potentially water (with big cylinders!) all year round.
