Regarding the priming, would you crank it round and undo the priming port so as not to be pumping against a back press, if you kept turning the crank it should pick up oil from sump if going the right way that is??.
I filled the priming port and turned it CCW and the oil was sucked in. I filled it again and turned it CW and the oil was expelled. If the priming port was in the output of the pump then it should run CW, but I made the assumption you prime the inlet of the pump.
Mind you given the amout of running it's done if the oil was going round there would be some horrendous noises going on!
