Have any of you ever heard of or experienced UV skin burns to the face (arc exposure "sun" burn) even when using a mask?
I have a chap at work who claims when TIG welding at 200A on aluminium his mask should be a 14 shade, he uses a Nexus 4 year old helmet carcass with an autofilter that goes up to 13. The filters are replaced as required.
He had a couple of days off work with burns to the face and I suspect he has been blind welding, without the mask and got the burns that way.
Can any of you see how he's got them if using the mask in the correct manner? The mask and filter should be providing sufficient UV protection no matter what setting it's on.
I suppose reflection is a possibility?
Thoughts?
