Not exactly hyrodvane... It's a compair screw compressor at 47cfm should be plenty for gouging...Christ, big old hydrovane! 100cfm?
Its got 9.5kva constant 11peak I think..Oh yes, plenty for gouging, running big air breakers, air/hydraulic power packs etc etc... very handy to have on a quarry service truck.
How many kva aux power is there on the trailblazer (12kw iirc)? Might be enough to run a powermax45
Gosh honestly I shouldn't go down the kitting up route too far without any promises of work
Have you looked into insurance requirements fully? It's getting very expensive to such an extent I am seriously thinking of dumping it from my workload. Along with three lots of paperwork to do for insurance on each job
Risk assessment. Consent to start and one satisfaction and completion all need filing
Sounds like a five figure investment just for your kick off without contracts in if I read this right
You could look at longbed L200s. They were an option ~2008 to 2010 and then standard in 2010 onwards. It measures 1400 ish so has to be lengthways,
Hydrovane measures 700wide so it's a tight fit...
I'm lucky.. I have a full time job at present. But I miss my welding, fabrication...
I do a hardfacing job once a year and Tha paid for the miller....
I know a guy Tha imports the compair c14's and got it cheap.... So its not a bad outlay upto now...
Insurance was pretty reasonable..
Risk assessments I do anyway for my daily job....
So I'm hoping to just see how much work is out there, see if I can pull any contracts in, and look into full time...

My shortbed (with a double cab) is 110 cm between the wheel arches in the bed, and just under 2m length with the tailgate up (perfectly legal to drive around with the tailgate down).
Longbeds are, IIRC, about 2300mm with the tailgate up.
Must admit the gear getting stolen does worry me... !!!It's. Not the best paying area and mobile welding kit gets stolen a lot! You might make a tenner an hour more an hour than working for someone else with all the investment. Bad payers etc to be figured into that

It's great owning your own kit but site environment is harsh even on the best of the best gear especially cement and coal plants where continuous amounts of dust is your kits enemy. If that breaks down while gouging out hard face plate and prolongs the length of time the equipment he's working on to be out of service then repeat contracts are going to be a fight for. I'd personally be happy to reduce my cut slightly if it meant I had good backup on the equipment and repeated work on the site. Thieves are a concern but my biggest concern would be getting done on time getting paid and coming back again. You're right Richard there are benefits to hiring, but what he has got already cheap is most of the outlay.i know some of the millers come with a decent sized compressor for gouging which would neatly package 90% of the required hardware.if you own the equipment and take out the hire Co you take in more money every week.what would stop me from doing it is thieves and thieves alone
Isn't that a slight overkill....Get a Unimog!
