Sip Topmig 150 help

I have a Sip Topmig - about 20 years old now.
Still works reasonably well, but it suffers the perennial problem of wire feed.

I have read & bookmarked the tutorials of modifying it, but am unsure of what steel liner to buy for it.
There seem to be many types on evilbay but none for the Topmig (or even Sip).

Does it matter which one I buy as I think I will need to trim both ends off anyway? I know I need the blue wire for .6 -.9 wire.

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

wire liner

Hi!

Just joined the forum myself after using the great advice here on modifying SIP welders.

About to start a mini project, I decided I just had to sort the awful wire feed out on my SIP 150 Turbo Mig.

Spent the morning yesterday adding all the mods I could find, including the wire feed wheel brace, the relay/capacitor based feed mod and a new wire liner.

For the wire liner I used a "premium" push bike brake cable kit from Halfords. The cable is just the right length for the SIP and was easy enough to fit.

I modified the brass retaining nuts at each end of the torch line to accept the slightly wider fit Halfords cable.

Result of all this?, blimey!, what a difference!. The wire feeds super smoothly and consistently.

Getting some gas today so I can try it properly, but confident its transformed this otherwise awful MIG.

Clark ones work but any hobby one should, they are usually too long and need trimmed, the off cut then goes to the small feed bit between the wire spool and the rollers.

Any brass ferrules unscrew from the old liner and fit on the new one if it doesn't have them.

Well I bought the new liner from Weldgear and fitted it tonight, what a difference!

Can't try welding with it yet as I'm in the middle of painting the car, but if I hold the wire now it mostly just pushes out with only a small amount of slipping on the drive wheel. Before it would have not fed at all and just slipped completely.

Next mod will be the brace across the top of the drive wheel section and when I have time I'll sort the seperate power supply to the drive gear.

I was thinking or replacing the welder after 20 years, but it may well have another 20 years of service left in it again soon.
