Great news. It worked!!!!!

The rod that was in the welder was 25mm short and looked like the end had broken off when the previous owner had it. I cut the new rod to length and tapered the end. It is absolutely first class now. I am over the moon. I will post a picture tomorrow to complete the thread for future reference.

On another note . . .

I start going to Welding evening classes at my local college next Thursday. 12 weeks of 3 hrs sessions that covers all types of welding. Really looking forward to it.

Thank you every one for all the comments. I can explore the forum in a more relaxed way now.

So on with the MGB restoration/build and designs for home made benders and an English wheel.!!!!!
