SIP - need a new transformer?

I have been using a MIGMATE 100 for aboput 20 years on and off ( not continuously!) The transformers gone bang I think ( LOUD POP AND SOME BLACK RESIDUE AROUND THE POINT THE WIRES ENTER) It no longer responds to the torch trigger ..

Can anyone tel me if its possble to get replacement transformers - and if its worth the trip? or should i buy a new MiG

You may find it isn't actually the transformer. Worthwhile popping the cover off for a look. AFAIK, there are no capacitors in there that would give you a nasty zap, but plug out, of course.

If you can find out the values/spec for the transformer you'll probably be able to get something to do the job. I mean, if you're happy with the thing, why spend loadsamoney?

Hopefully the folk who understand the electrical side of these things will be along shortly.

Thanks, I took the side panels off and the main transformer has some black burn't looking deposit around the opening where the supply wires go into the windings.. I can't see anyhting else wrong with it.
I was using it when it stopped and simultaneously made a loud pop !

I checked the more obvious things the wires to the trigger and the earth etc - can't see anything else that looks burn't or broken ..

The presence of the black stuff around the transformer makes me think its had it.. unfortunately...

Shenion or Weldequip may have some ideas -- it has to be cheaper to replace the transformer than the whole welder.

I reckon it's probably not worth messing about with it unless you can get another machine to rob the transformer from, the cost of a new one would be pretty high if you can even get hold of one. The machine is 20 odd years old so it's done it's time and hopefully given good service, maybe it is time to retire it and get a new one.

ive said the same thing as iwant to uprate my tranformer but sip wont tell me the spec and type ineed for upgrade from 1o5t migmateive only had amonth sip want £211 and say ineed to run it at 20amp
