Hi
I have used my SIP 170 to weld repair panels in my old Ford but nothing heavier. I am currently trying to weld some 2"x2" box section for a trailer chassis. My problem is that is that even with the machine on full it only seems to get the same sort of results as the 90 amp machine in the test on this site. That is to say poor penetration on 3mm butt joints. I can, as advised in that section V the butt joint to get a better weld but thing I can't work out is why a welder with almost twice the power ie 170 amps is struggling so much. The wire feed seems OK. I am using Argoshield light and 0.8 wire.
Any guidance much appreciated.
