Hello all,
My first time post here, although ive been viewing the forums for a couple of weeks since finally beginning the journey of teaching myself to mig weld. This is a great forum/site with masses of info , tips etc and it has really helped me to get started and tell whats going on.
Anyway, i come to my first big problem which i hope someone can help me with.
Got set up today for some practising, switch on the unit and i hear the wire feed mech whirring away. Look down and the torch is spewing out wire. I sit looking at it for about 10 secs a bit confused, then switch it off. Switch it on again, still the same. Off. Then i notice a smell like gunpowder or fireworks, you know what i mean. Then i switch it on again, its still spewing out wire. This time though, before i switch off i hear a distinct "ffffsstt!" from inside, another stronger whiff of gunpowder and then i switch it off. Smells and sounds kaput!
So, ive done a search on here and from what i can quickly gather, these machines are not the toppest of quality. I bought the unit off my GF's dad, but it was pretty much unused, still with the orignal SIP gas bottle. Its been in use for about 2 weeks now.
I can also see that they are not massively complicated and people on here are routinely repairing their welders, so can anyone point out what might be at fault and if it can be repaired as i want to get on. I was just starting to get the hang of it as well! (Well, i think, i was going to post some pics up for analysis soon). I shall continue to seach past threads
Many thanks
Regards
Mark
