SIP Migmate 130, No penetration

Hi

new to the forum so dont eat me :P . I have recently bought a SIP MIGmate 130 turbo to weld a box construction to strengthen a rusted suspension mount in a TVR. To create this box I plan on using 3mm steel plate and 2.5mm, but when I tried to weld on both of these sheets of metal (seperatly, doing straight welds) I cant get any penetration what so ever. I have the welder on max power settings and the wire speed at about 1/3. The gas is a disposable CO2 and it is on (just about) full. I am also using .8mm wire in the welder. Is the welder not powerful enough or is it something Im missing?

Well worth posting a photo of a weld so we can see what's happening. You might need to be on max power setting on the 130, but it should give full penetration.

My best guess is the gas flow is too low - very common for disposable bottles. Otherwise are you getting a consistent constant noise while welding or an intermittent floop floop noise. Wire speed might be too low. Check the earth clamp connection is on cleaned steel and the metal is clean too. Easier to tell from photos.

Gas bottle should be full on mate as them bottles are lucky to make pressure as it is have you cleaned the steel even if its new i had the same problem turned out i hadnt cleaned up properly and the rust additive was stopping penetration hope this helps Darren

You might try turning the wire feed to about mid scale and try it again,the faster wire speed will raise the amps.

I have an SIP migmate 105 and i did some welding the other week on 4mm or so box section and had power to maximum and wire speed was between 1/2 - 2/3rds.For me,1/3 was a bit slow.
