Hi, I've had a problem with the welder today, it suddenly stopped feeding wire so I checked the tension and made sure the roll of wire was free to move but the motor was not feeding the wire. At the same time the wire speed knob stopped working correctly (it spun without resistance through many revolutions) so I took the casing off, ligned the control board up and nipped up the securing nut which fixed the wire speed knob but still no wire feed.

I can hear and see the relay activating put it doesn't appear to be allowing an juice though, within the relay there's some black residue, Im not sure if this is the cause of the problem or if this is normal for a 3 year old unit?

Any ideas?

There's a bit of cardboard sandwiched between the control board and the inside of the casing, the board was mis-placed by the securing nut slackening so it may have shorted on the casing.

I guess I can get a replacement relay from maplin but it doesn't look particulary easy to replace, the PCB appears to be sealed but I can't be sure until I get a soldering iron on it

Ahh, moderation is not my middle name, especially using a 105, you have to turn everything up flat out

I can't see on the relay what amperage it's rated for, do you know?

You can usually look the relay ratings up on the internet.
Just search for the number on the relay.
It should be 20-30 amps @240v with a 12v coil.

The relay on my SIP Migmate Turbo 105 is a "Finder Type 40.61, 16A 250vac".
