I would forget that model as it is designed for heavier metal fabrication and NOT thin sheet metal. I would also AVOID SIP machines. Although they are marketed as the best thing since sliced bread (largely due to biased right-ups from magazines that rely on their annual adertising spend) they are IN FACT quite the worst machine on the market! with very poor wire feed/torch assembly/reliability & overall build quailty. You are better off with a Sealey & they are not much better. Buy a CLARKE!RS2000WRC said:i think the add said 12mm, i just want it to work on cars lol its my dad who wants it for thick stuff,
i want a welder that can do car welding (chassis, body and roll cage tubeing, stiching and seam welding etc) and it will have to do a lot as my audi needs one or two things on it welded welded before i resore it and then sell it (paint and full rebuild),
Then im going to try my hand at a short wheel base audi quattro, and that invoves LOTS of cutting and welding so id like to get a welder that is up to the job,
so any advice on a good welder would be greatly apperciated!
also what kind of gas would be best? ive been given a empty puresheild argon boc bottle, would this gas be any good for what im planning on doing?
Thanks
CLARKE 255TE is a cracker, same machine as the famous American 'Miller' machine with cast aluminium geared wire feed, large smoothing capacitor bank for outstanding smooth arc characteristics & overall GREAT value for money. Trust me, the CLARKE range are THE best of the bunch in their price range.RS2000WRC said:so clarke would be the best choice? ill take a look at then to see what there like, can anyone suggest a specific one?
Great value for money I must admit. They are a respected American name but mostly now manufactured in Malaysia. I have repaired the Fabricator 330 model & must say I wasn't really impressed with the build quality. The last one I worked on was just over 3 years old & needed BOTH switches (Voltage & Coarse/Fine Switch) replacing + a new main contactor. All morning of a job & a 200 quid bill!!Eurotorch said:Just had another look, the site is called "migtigarc" the welder is a thermal arc, which is thermadyne, it is a 200 amp machine, some freebies with it, £399+vat=£469 that VAT again I always miss that little detail!!
