Sip autoplus130 needs a manual

Hi,

Just got myself an old autoplus130, but no manual - and cant even find one online to my surprise.
Anyone know where i could look?
Or, any idea if this can be used gassless with fluxed wire? I bought a disposable bottle but due to being a total noob, used it all before i'd got anywhere, and cant find a refil for the cylinder that came with it.

Hi, a little update...

still no luck with a manual..

but, got a small reel of flux cored wire (0.8mm) from halfords and it worked fine. Truth is without having to rush because the gas was gonna run out, my welds were actually a bit better!
...just a bit more cleaning up with the angle grinder

The difference between flux cored and solid wire & gas machines if the polarity of the torch and earth. If yours was set to use gas the torch would have been +ve and the earth -ve. For flux cored they recommend the other way around, and machines that do both have terminals you can swap.

Though I've run fluxcored with the wrong polarity too and haven't noticed a lot of difference. There's a SIP manaual here if it's any help, but I don't think it covers the Autoplus: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/manuals.htm

I've read that manual, thanks Malcolm - it does mention altering the polarity on dual-purpose machines, i just dont know if the autoplus is a dual?

What do you think is the longer term consequence of having the polarity wrong, will it kill the machine? It sounds like i can change it around easily enough, if it isn't a dualmachine, is there any point?

It'll be obvious if the polarity can be swapped. Trace the wires from the torch and the earth back to the machine and they'd end in screw on terminals marked +ve and -ve either on the front of the machine or inside the side cover where the wire reel lives.

Does no damage to the machine whatsoever if you weld with the wrong polarity for the wire. It's more of a how good the welds turn out thing. I forever get myself confused about this, but 2/3 of the heat goes to the workpiece and 1/3 to the wire. Swap the polarity and it's the other way around. Given that you get more penetration with gasless wire with the correct torch negative polarity I'm guessing the heat goes towards the work with that stuff.

In that case if you are working on thin metal running gasless wire with the wrong polarity (torch positive) will be easier to work with, and so long as the welds are strong enough all is fine.

Still much easier to work with torch positive with normal solid wire and shielding gas.

Hope I've confused you because I've baffled myself now.
