Sip Autoplus turbo 215 wire feed speed same at all settings

Hi all
I have just joined the forum to see if any one can help me out, as stated in the title, my wire feed is one speed, fast, turning the speed control knob does nothing.
Could this be a simple problem like a resistor, the wire feed motor is pushing the wire out at a steady rate, unfortunately its the same rate whatever setting I use.
I was making a mounting plate for a 3 phase motor to sit under a bench to then connect to my new knife grinder, was well upset when the welder decided to play up like this, all in all the welder has been no problem up till now.

That sounds like it is going to be an expensive repair .
Can this be fitted by a non electrician.

The circuit boards are easy to swap. Do a sketch with the colours of the wires and where on the board they connect, then take lots of photos from lots of different angles for when you find you've not written enough info down.

Does sound like the transistor /thyristor that controls the wire speed. Boards aren't crazy expensive - they are only little.
