Thankyou for reply am I right in thinking that this due to set needing 25amp?You want to use the 32 amp outlet.
You could probably run it OK on the 16a, I can't see it needing 25a. However, seeing as you have a 32a socket available it would seem sensible to opt for that I suppose.
Your generator might struggle to run that set though, it'll probably be right at it's limit! I'd be surprised if it can run your welder at maximum power.
Bugga haha oh well can only try , failing that the cooker mains is 32! Could have tail wired in and try that??? Guess that's bad practice thoHaha.
What manufactures say the welder needs, and what manufactures say generators output, aren't always compatible.
I tend to find that as the bare minimum you need 1.5 times the generator output that the welder should need. So, for a welder claiming to need 6.5kva you'd be going for 9.75kva, and hoping it's enough.
Running at less than full power will help, but it will certainly still be pushing things.
Also, what isn't considered in the figures is petrol or diesel generators. Welding takes a surge of power which diesels cope with far better than petrol ones.
I'm not saying you won't get your 4mm plate welded, but don't think it'll like it.
u can use the cooker supply providing it hasnt an electric cooker conected to itBugga haha oh well can only try , failing that the cooker mains is 32! Could have tail wired in and try that??? Guess that's bad practice tho
Off to get 32amp plug in morning , hope genset has enough in it to get chassis welded it's only 3mm plateThat's why I said use the 32 amp socket, the genny is borderline so why make life hard by using the low power circuit?

CheersDepends on how big or small the conductors in the cable are and how long the extension needs to be. 4mm2 is a good size for a 240 volt 20 metre cable.
You'll be alright on 3mm, just make sure the air filter is clean on the genny, they loose lots of power if the air filter is clogged, same goes for the fuel filter if it's got one.
Reason for generator is that I'd have to run 20meters of cable out the kitchen window to power set, not ideal but generator worth goThat's why I said use the 32 amp socket, the genny is borderline so why make life hard by using the low power circuit?
