SIP 150 migmate or Cebora 130

I have a SIP 150 Mig mate, i have had the common wire feed problems etc and fixed them, but today i have another one, the welder stops and starts, more stopping than starting, i almost launched it out the shed window on a few occasions.
Now, i think it is the relay which is part of the circuit board so it woudl just be a case of replacing that part. But i also have a cebora 130 which is in need of a bit of TLC (got it for a fiver!) i.e a new wire feed/clamper arm assembly, a new torch/cable feed thing (also a handle and cover if i'm being picky!) and that should be it up and running. From reading bits and pieces on here i think the best option is to repair the cebora as it is the better welder, but it will take more money to fix it i presume (haven't priced anything up yet).

I'm using the welder mainly for body panels etc.

Your thoughts please.

If it is just the relay, then I would fix it.

But when you say its stops and starts, what exactely do you mean, do mean the wire stops and starts coming out or that the wire is coming out but there is no arc?

I would make sure the tip is the right size and new for a start.
Release the wire feed pressure thingy at the rollers and see if the wire is coming out conitunously when the trigger is pressed.
Check the switch in the torch handle to make sure its working ok, could be one of a few simple faults.

I have the Cebora 130 Pocket Turbo and reckon it is a very good machine - had it for nearly 20 years. Can't comment on the SIP as I have never used one. As you only paid a fiver for the Cebora, it will be well worth fixing it up. Send a PM to Weldequip on this forum, he should be able to supply the wire feed etc at a good price.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Regarding the SIP, the wire feed is fine, i have also checked the torch switch, i thought it may have been a broken wire or dodgy connection but i've checked everything with my multi-meter and it's all ok, the relay/solenoid switch has a black 'arcing' mark inside the casing so i'm sure its the culprit.

I'll go to the give that boy a pm and ask for a price for parts for both welders, i'll get them both running and sell the sip on i think.

Ive just read what I have written, I meant that the wrire feed roller is turning constantly when the trigger is pressed. If the wire feed tension is released, then the wire wont come out, doh!

I bought a SIP 150 Turbo DUal purpose when I first started welding, and the wire feed wrapped up after about a fortnight, sent it back and had a loan SIP150 Gas only machine and it welded far better than the dual purpose one. THen got the dual purpose one returned after repair, but it had been damaged intransit. So after a fight I got a replacement sent.

And that still wasnt as good as the gas only one. Kept it for a year and gave up and got a Cebora Boxer twin155, had that for about 7 years with no problems at all other than it really wasnt man enough for some of the stuff I was doing with it, it was great if you took your time so the duty cycle wasnt an issue. But it did struggle on thickish bar onto thickish metal, ie greater than 5mm.

But it was good enough. So im not that impressed with SIP, but if it is the relay, then I would repair it. Otherwise if it isnt an easy/ cheap fix I would go for the Cebora. All down to cost really.

Now got a Portamig 235 and its great, such an improvment over the cebora, even off a 13A socket its far superior.
