sip 105 turbo

My SIP 130 doesn't need the transformer mod since I 'broke' all the internal connections to cut through the accumulated corrosion and then coated them all with petroleum jelly before remaking them. It also has the feed drive mod to eliminate slippage at the rollers. How effective this would be on a smaller model I wouldn't care to venture an opinion.

as your 130 has the same layout and components as the rest of the Sip/Cosmo 's, just a slightly bigger transformer, then it would probably benifit from the separate transformer to provide a stable current for the wire feed. But yes, making good electical contact and having the brace does wonders. Ive both a 105 and a 130dp and the 105 is the go to welder as it just runs nicer.

As its using 240v " a lot" is one answer , but if your welding stuff then we can assume youve got a bit of intelligence and so will take the correct precautions - Its quite easy, i connected up the bridge rectifier wrong it smoked a bit but didn't do any lasting damage

There is space in the live side of the casing to get the transformer in, as i use the reel side as storage for tips and stuff i didnt fancy that lot rolling about where there is 240v The rectifier needs to be bolted tight to part of the casing as it needs a heat sink there is a convenient hole on the inner galvy divider/chassis ( may be under the sticky label that tells you to run the bigger reels wrongly). The transformer got pop riveted to the base

puzzle time. when I open the welder there is a big blue relay and it was black at the top. stripped the lid off it cleaned contacts and now welder is acting normal again. is it that or is it wishful thinking?

Are you sure it's a "big" blue relay? The one on the green circuit board?

Whatever, if it was cack before, and now it's better, then that's a result no matter how you look at it! Let us know if you're still having problems and if you want a shot at that mod I'll get you a shopping list.

For the power supply mod, you need some wire snips and crimp connectors (I've got these, so don't worry about them, too much).

You also need a 240V relay and socket. I got mine from Maplins

Then you need a 20V to 24V transformer. Do you have access to any old laptop stock? If so, hunt around for a switch mode laptop power supply that feeds ~20V at 3-4A.
If not, then you need an AC transformer to around 20-24V AC, plus a bridge rectifier.
Something like this should do the job http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/2x24v-50va-chassis-mounting-mains-transformer-a08qk
But if you have any transformer that will output 20-24V AC then that will pretty much work (the wire motor will not pull too much current).

Finally, if your transformer is AC (as opposed to the DC of a laptop power supply), then you will need a bridge rectifier like this; http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/kbpc3504-35a-bridge-rectifier-ar87u
