Rather expensive layout for a forum review isn’t it Hugh. Wouldn’t you be best off buying something you know. As much as I like to contribute on here with info I wouldn’t splash out £400 on a machine that could quite literally be a load of junk just to give it an honest review. You say sell it on well you’ll be lucky to see a chunk of that back imo. It’s not a known brand it’s not a trusted brand and people ain’t gonna risk it unless the price is low enough to risk it. Fair play to you mate but I can potentially see a big money loss here.

I never progressed any further down the 'buying a new mig welder' avenue but...

As an experiment (I don't actually have an immediate requirement) I'm considering ordering the cheapest pulse-mig I can find on AliExpress, I present the Hitbox PTMaster 185:

I have received an English manual and a video of the pulse mig function. I’ll post both on here when I’m next I’m front of my laptop, it’s a pain to attach a pdf from the iPad.

The synergic function with one rotary knob looks like my Riland 175GD. The visible CONS from the published specs in Ali Express are:
a) Low duty cycle 25%@180A.
b) Eventhough Feeder accepts 5kgr 0.6 & 0.8 solid wires, it says that accept only 1Kgr 0.8 FLUX wires.
c) How about 1.0mm ALU wire ?
d) Is there any solenoid valve for gas control ?

The synergic display appears to be a standard, I've seen it on a few other Asian origin single phase mig inverters.

If it takes a 5kg reel, I can't see how it can't take a 5kg reel of fluxcore? Surely if the reel fits and the feeder grabs it then it's good to go.

There has to be a solenoid for gas control, I've never seen a euro torch with a gas valve in the torch.

TER are produced in China, its a joint venture with 2 of the former directors/management of ESSETI from Italy and the Chinese manufacturer, Rhiland I believe

Properly T&R for Ter & Riland (Rilon). There is some connection between Riland and Jasic that may still be in effect, as their Australian distributors who also have a US outlet (Razorweld) once listed this machine as available on their US website. On inquiry, I was told that they dropped it for the US market due to lack of interest. I found a copy of the manual for it online somewhere (think it was on the Riland Chinese language web site) and can only say while the waveform shaping options were pretty fancy at the time, setting it up looked to be a royal PIA.
The 200A Stel has been available over here for the last couple of years through USAweld, and has been very well received, with even the Fronius engineers giving it grudging approval when it was shown at Fabtech last year. The 1/3 phase 300A version is supposed to be showing here in a month or two, with Peter Zila having been field testing one over here since last year.

The 1Kgr flux reel limitation is mentioned in AliExpress' specifications. I am also wondering why they are saying this. The feeder mechanism seems to be good (not the crappy plastic). So, We are all waiting your review as soon as you receive it.

BTW, they have told me that pulse welding can be used also in welding Galvanized steel, as pulse welding reduces spatter. Is it true?

Absolutely.
A good pulsed Mig setting can almost eliminate all spatter.

Absolutely.
A good pulsed Mig setting can almost eliminate all spatter.

Don’t expect a magic wand though, Galv is notorious for Spatter but this is mainly from the coating, Pulse or no Pulse you will still get “some” on Galv

I think that the offerings from Paton (A small Ukrainian manufacturer, sold through a Polish agent) offer better value and performance with fully manual pulse control on all 3 processes and a novel design whereby the feeder is separate from the power source.

Saw that video a while back when I was looking for a Pulse Mig, doesn't sound too great to be honest and clarity is poor so can't really see how it performs.

Hugh, as you said, manual is useless (possibly a poor translation from Chinese)
I cannot see any adjustments for Inductunce or for trimming the voltage during MIG operation.
I have no experience on Pulse welding alu and what a proper sound should be.

Is it worth the time & money to spend for something that is "just the cheapest pulse MIG in AliExpress", instead of buying something more reliable that would have more functions? This just my consideration.

I have seen that Paton design somewhere else in the last while, trying to remember. Not sure if it was an advert for that machine or if it was some other make that was doing the same thing.

Ah it was indeed a Paton, never really bothered looking at it too much but remember seeing the dual boxes.
