Hi
A recent injury has meant a change in priorities and with a few months to spare I've decided its time to get back in the garage and do something fun!
I'm about to start building an overland truck and will need a beefier welder.
I have a migatronic rallye166 which I got new for my 19th birthday which is a superb welder for automotive stuff but as it's not fan cooled it's no good for heavier fabrication. The migatronic has never let me down and will be kept alongside whatever bigger machine I get.
My migatronic is still going strong after 20 years so would like whatever I buy next to be similarly long lived.
It will need to be single phase but I can run a 32A supply to it easily.
Portability isn't really a concern, new machine will live in the garage. Not bothered about SFW, would rather put the extra money for SWF to a better machine.
It will need to weld mild steel up to around 12mm, 3mm stainless and in an ideal world Aluminum for storage lockers and chequer plate.
Having perused many threads on here, Hoods EWM Pheonix looks like it would be a perfect set up but is out of my league price wise.
I've not done much fabrication for a while and most of my welding has been on automotive stuff so a simple reliable machine rather than something with loads of bells and whistles is more important at the minute. I've never welded stainless or alloy before.
I'm looking at 300A tecarc EMIGC for around £2k. I've noted the issues with lead times and office staff but otherwise would this be a suitable and durable machine for what I have in mind?
Edit: I've noticed they do a pulse option on the above. Would this be any advantage for what I want the machine to do?
Any thoughts and info much appreciated!
