Single phase 1mm wire

Cros-arc 200dmf menu system is getting on my nerves.
Thinking of getting a ESAB 215ic
I’ve got 40amp single phase in workshop available.
For use on farm welding from 3mm jobs to 1/2 inch wear plates on excavator buckets etc.
Interested in running 1mm wire on mig, occasionally flux core and stick.

Would this machine meet my needs?

My money would go on an oxford, no complex menus, uk company and a few hundred to spare, for use in the pub, brothel, garden centre etc what ever takes your fancy.

Forgot to say also want machine with power factor correction for future use with generator.

Oxford 300/330 amp unit, if you can find an old transformer version (32amp input plug), or one of the newer versions are available up to 400 amp but I can't find the listed input amps required for single phase.

The U.K is outside the E.U. but if it follows E.U. there is a ban on old transformer units , so finding a new one it kind of tricky. i don´t know the exact amperage of 1.0 wire but for 0.8 it goes from 50 to 180 amps. Why not go for 0.8 and crank up the amperage to 170 or 180 and do several passes?

Oxford has adapted to the new regulations, and is now offering a new range, so they remain one of the few companies to offer high-output single phase migs for the UK market...

There are still some of their older transformer MIG units available as N.O.S. but it might take ringing round distributors to find one.

I think an Oxford Multimig 411 would be the maximum from their new range that OP could run on his power supply, which would very comfortably use 1.0 or even 1.2 wire.



More generally if I was going down that route I would definitely get water cooling as an option... It makes a big difference to usability when you get up to those very high output levels.

Also worth considering whether an SWF and a long umbilical is worth getting, if working on heavy equipment.

Purchased an Oxford CS271 last year, less money that the ESAB and it can do Stick and Lift TIG to.
They build them with current correction so can be used with gen sets. welded up to 10mm so far without any issues.
Thinnest weld has been rusty Sills on friends car.
Doesn't have to many bells and whistles to go wrong, but works well. Oh and its UK made.
